Blessed Pope Urban II (ca. 1042 – 29 July 1099), born Otho de Lagery (alternatively: Otto, Odo or Eudes), was pope from 12 March 1088 until his death on 29 July 1099. He is best known for starting the First Crusade (1096–1099) and setting up the modern-day Roman Curia in the manner of a royal court to help run the Church. -

Saladin or Salah Al-din is remembered for being a unselfish kind ruler who captured the holy city of Jerusalem and repelled the crusades. He eventually made an agreement to let all people pray there. He Gave to society and not to himself and treated his prisoners with respects, not as slave. -

Marco Polo was famouse for his travels through Ancient China, and Asia. Marco Polo was also very brave to go on a dangerous adventure like he did. It was also considered very risky since they thought that you could fall of the earth (they used to think it was flat). He traveled through most of Asia. -

He was well known for "inventing" the printing press. Recent studies have found other who have discovered the printing press, but Gutenberg is usually the man who gets credit for it. -

Joan of Arc was a fifteenth century peasant girl who completely reversed a war between France and England that had been going on for almost 100 years. She became a legend because she claimed she was sent by God and then backed up her claims with amazing military victories like Orleans and Patay. Unfortunately for her the English were desperate to get rid of her so when she was caputured they rigged her trial and had her burned.
