As a young adult he earned a BA in mathematics and a PhD in physics from Trinity College, Cambridge. He worked as a physicist until 1977 when he started training in the priesthood. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1997 and also holds many other awards for his work in the many fields he trained.
  • A Brief History of Time vs. Science and Providence: God's Interaction With the World

In 1988 Stephen Hawking wrote one of the most famous books in physics "A Brief History of Time". The following year Dr. Polkinghorne wrote "Science and Providence: God's Interaction With the World". Both were colleagues of Cambridge with different views on the creation of the universe. One with help of a superior power the other not. “I started with the statement that I believe that God acts in the world, but he is not a show-off conjurer who violates the same laws of nature that he made.”
  • John Polkinghorne on the Existence of God

"The remarkable insights that science affords us into the intelligible workings of the world cry out for an explanation more profound than that which itself can provide. Religion, if it is to take seriously its claim that the world is the creation of god, must be humble enough to learn from science what that world is actually like. The dialogue between them can only be mutually enriching." https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FNkUGexU38pDKWTqP1f6OZwlll279GcwHQNHrYukoE8/edit?usp=sharing

    John Polkinghorne 'Epistemology Models Ontology'
Dr. Polkinghorne's Epistemology Model is based on the concept of linear trajectory of knowledge. His model closely resembles the Holy Trinity which he based his concept off of. He also states that epistemology and ontology models should influence each other versus separate models. His models and writings state this is the truest form of knowledge we can know.
