    At age 13, she said that she heard a voice from God talk to her to help her govern herself. Saints from her Church then told her about the pitiful state of France. They also told her that she must go to assist the king of France.

    Before setting off to France she went to Robert de Baudricourt the captain of Vaucouleurs asking for armor, a horse, and an escort to Charles VII. She had to be persistent to convince him to give her what she wanted. Then she was off to France.

    Charles VII sent Joan to Orleans as caption of a troop of men (but not as the leader of all his forces). Joan relieved the city of Orleans thus removing the greatest immediate threat to Charles VII and for the first time in his reign this allowed him a military triumph.

    War Against Paris

    They were deciding if they should attach English positions in Paris. Joan favored fighting the English. They decided to fight the English but they didn’t win. Charles VII entered into a treaty with Burgundy.

    Joan had been made inactive by the royal court for a few months but she finally went to the defense of the town of Compiegne. During the battle outside the town walls Joan was captured and turned over to the English.
