    Joan Baez

  • Concert

Baez was taken to her first concert, inspiring her to learn how to play songs on the ukelele, and eventually perform them. Gave her a belief in music. I can relate to this because after my first concert I too was inspired, and found a strong belief in music and song.
  • Playing First Concert

Played her first concert in a club. Her family and close friends attended and she was paid $10. This helped her believe in herself and see that she could make a career of this.
  • Preformed Concert & Signed Label

She preformed one of her first larger concets with another folk musician. This is how she was discovered by Vanguard Records. She chose that one over Columbia Records because she believed that Vanguard Records would give her more artistic freedom, I too believe that having artistic freedom is a very important thing, because one should not be limited to only a small part of their true self.
  • Album Went Gold

Her second album, Joan Baez Vol. 2, sold well and went gold. This helped to form her belief that her music could sell and could make a change. I can relate to this because I know how it feels to not believe in yourself, but end up being suprised by how well you did.
  • Sang at the Washington March

Sang "We Shall Overcome" at the Washington march organised by Martin Luther King jr. Civil rights was something she believed in, and this wasa good way for her to support her and MLK's cause.
  • Husband Imprisoned

Her then husband, David Harris, was arrested for draft resistance because he was opposed to the war in Vietnam. This helped her to form her belief of resistance to things she doesn't believe in. I can relate to this becaue I have a strong belief in standing up in what you believe in.
  • Founding of Amnesty International in America

Baez was very important in the founding of Amnesty Interantional in the U.S. This showed her belief that human rights are a good thing. I too believe that basic human rights are a good things.
  • Arrested in California

She was arrested twice in California for blocking an armed forces induction center. This showed her belief in standing for what you believe in a non-violent way.
  • Camped Against Logging

She camped at the top of a redwood tree to protest the logging of ancient redwoods. This shows her belief ain conservation of trees and history. I can relate to her beliefs because I too think that we should conserve our world.
  • Opposing Death Penalty

Opposed the deahth penalty by singing a song fr a protest to stop a man from being executed. This showed her belief that people should not kill, even as punishment. I can relate to this because I too oppose the death penaly.
