    My mom was born in Hong Kong on September 25, 1966 into a family of 11 people. She is the youngest child in her family. She has one older sister and seven older brothers.

    My mom lived in this village for her entire childhood. This place holds a special place in her heart, and contains many precious memories. This was her first home, and she still keeps all of the pictures from the village in a photo album.

    TVB, a popular brodcasting televison network was founded in 1967 and launched in 1968. It was very exciting at the time, because there was no Cable TV.
  • Hong Kong Flu

    Hong Kong Flu
    There was a global outbreak of flu that originated in Hong Kong. It killed approximately 1 million people worldwide. Some of my mom's family friends got the flu, but luckily no one in the village was affected.
  • my mom's family gets a TV

    My mom's family was the first people to own a TV in the village. They didn't lock the front door so people were invited in to watch their TV or come over for dinner.

    There was a major flood in the village in the year 1976. There was a Pacific typhoon season in 1976 and a Tropical storm Violet struck Hong Kong. Some areas were affected, but the village was damaged most severely. It was a farmland, which made the flooding worse. The entire house flooded and my mom was alone in the house, and she couldn't get out. The water was up to her shoulders, and she couldn't move past the furniture. Luckily, her brothers came at soon as they could and rescued her.

    A middle-aged man moved into the village. Most people didn't see him as "dangerous" then. They would invite him over for dinner, but after a while they had doubts. My mom doesn't own any pictures of the man, but she has a picture of his house, which is the green one my mom is standing in front of.

    The man had a troubled past and a mental illness. After the people in a village knew that he posed a threat, he was put in a mental institute. He returned back to the village briefly, but left again.
  • my mom leaves the village

    my mom leaves the village
    Her family was forced to move out of her village when she was 14 years old because the government decided to demolish and rebuild the area. The village had a large area of land which was perfect for redevelopment. Her family then moved to "San Hong" street, which is also located in Sheung Shui.
