    This law states that the children of Japanese immigrants living in America become citiznes of America.
  • Naturalization Act

    This Law limits American citizenship to "white persons and persons of African descent," meaning Japanese could not be American citizens.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Chinese Exclusion Act

  • The Alien Contract Labor Law

    This law prohibited any company or individual from bringing foreigners into the United States under contract to perform labor here. (a.ka. prohibeted any company/individual from employing foreigners). The only exceptions are those who were brought to do domestic service and skilled workmen who should be needed here to help establish some new trade or industry.
  • Expatriation Act

    This law declares that an American woman who marries a foreign (like a Japanese) national loses her citizenship.
  • Gentlemen's Agreement

    Gentlemen's Agreement
    This law stated that no more Japanese men could immigrate to the Unites States. Only women/wives could immigrate to the U.S. which increased the population, and created Japanese communities.   • California's Alien Land Law

    This law prohibited Japanese and Chinese from owning property in the state of California.
  • Congress Enacts A Literacy Requirement

    The law required immigrants (Japanese) to be able to read 40 words in some language. The law also specifies that immigration is prohibited from Asia, except from Japan and the Philippines.
  • Executive Order 9066

    Executive Order 9066
    This law authorized the military to evacuate 112,000 Japanese Americans from the Pacific coast and placed them in ten internment camps. Image Citation:
