Japan Timeline By SWAGGER12 Mar 31, 1854 Isonalization ends Commodore Matthew Perry sails to Japan, showing them western technology, prompts Japan to end their long period of isolation. Jan 3, 1868 Empire of Japan is formed After the reignation of the shogun, the new emperor Meji seizes control of the country and unifies it after the Boshin Wars. Period: Jan 30, 1868 to May 30, 1869 Boshin War Meji and the old Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, war against each other. Meji's forces whin and Yoshinobu is stripped of his power. Period: Aug 1, 1894 to Apr 17, 1895 First Sino-Japanese War Japan tries to invade China for the first time for control over the Koreas. Period: Feb 8, 1904 to Sep 5, 1905 Russo-Japanese War Japan declares war on the Russian Empire by attacking their port. The Russians eventually sue for peace after being defeated. Period: Jul 28, 1914 to Nov 11, 1918 World War 1 Jul 7, 1937 Second Sino-Japanese War Japan starts, for the 2nd time, trying to invade China. This conflict is resolved at the end of WW2, Period: Sep 1, 1939 to Aug 15, 1945 World War 2 On September 1st 1939 Germany starts the "Official WW2" by invading Poland, however Japan was invading China in 1937. The war ends with the US nuking Japan making them surrender. Apr 25, 1940 Enters WW11 Japan enter World War 2 Apr 30, 1940 Invades French Indochina Japan invades French Indochina or Vietnam. Dec 7, 1941 Attack on Pearl Harbor Japan bombs Hawaii's Pearl Harbor Sep 2, 1945 Japan Surrender Japan surrendered to the U.S. after 4 years of long fighting. The country was reduced to rubble and the government was in shambles. Sep 2, 1945 Japan's New Constitution U.S. general Douglas MacArthur made Japan a constitutional monachry. He made the Diet, a two house parliment he also made it so Japan could not wage war or have a large military. Sep 3, 1945 Emperor Hirohito is declared not a god As part of the treaty the emperor had to admit that was not a god or a desendent of a god. Sep 3, 1945 U.S. starts rebuilding Japan The U.S. rebuilt Japan because they wanted to trade with them and introduce a democracy. Sep 4, 1945 The role of U.S rebuilding Japan The U.S. helped set up the government and also rebuild damaged cities from the atomic blasts. Apr 2, 1956 Japan joins UN United Nations deems Japan trust worthy enough to be on there counsel. Mar 11, 2011 2011 Japan Earthuake and Tsunami Japan is devestated by the worst earthquake in recorded history, a terrible 9.0 magnitude, This quake was followed by many after shocks and a tsunami which did as much damge as the earthquake itself.
