Jane Austen was one of the greatest poets of all time. Jane was born December 16, 1775. She was born in England.

Jane and her sister were sent to a boarding school for her education. While at the school Jane and her sister caught an illness. After a short period they returned home.

Jane Austen was the seventh daughter. She grew up in an environment that stressed learning and creative thinking. Jane was very close to her father and her older sister.

Jane started to create her own novels in her notebooks. These stories were all short stories, poems, and plays. Jane's stories are now called "Jane's Juvenilia".

In 1801, Jane moved back with her father, mother, and sister, Cassandra. In 1805 Jane's father passed away. After the death the family was forced to move from place to place.

During early adulthood Jane helped run the family home. She played piano, attended church, and became an accomplished dancer. On other evenings Jane would read books to her family.

Now Jane is in her 30's and is publishing books. She is putting the books as anonymous. Some of the books are Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice (called her darling child), Mansfield Park, and Emma.

Pride and Prejudice is Jane's ssecond book. When she was first writing it she was going to name it "First Impressions". She later changed the name because it was already used.

Mansfield Park was written between Febuary 1811- the summer of 1813.It was Jane's third book. It was Jane's most complex novel.

Jane Austen started writing "Emma" in 1814 and finished a year later in March 1815. It wasn't published until the end of that year. At the time of publish the book only earned 40 pounds ($60.26).

Jane started to become ill. She had what we call Addison's disease. Jane tried to keep up on her writing. Before she died Jane just souldn't keep up.

Jane was 41 years old when she pasted away. She died on July 18, 1817. Jane is now resting in Winchester Cathedral in England.

Jane's brother, Henry, died shortly after Jane. Before Henry died he published some of Jane's books. He also revealed what she wrote.

The British public had a contest. They voted on the top 100 poets. They voted Jane as #70.

In 2007 Jane Austen was on the worldwide news. David Lassman found books under a different name that Jane wrote. He called her "Rejecting Jane".
