Irma was born on October 7, 1923, to her parents Alfred Anton Albert Grese and Bertha Wilhelmine Auguste Grese née Winkler.

When Irma was 13 her mother committed suicide, due to her father's extramarital affairs.

At the age of 15, Irma quit school and went to work on a farm.

Irma wanted to become an assistant nurse and in 1939 she joined the SS convalescent hospital in Hohenlychen, where she learned from an orthopedic surgeon named Karl Gebhardt, who conducted unspeakable medical experiments on prisoners.

She worked at a camp as a volunteer there. As she wasn't forced to work there.

While she was a guard at the camps, she was thought to be held accountable for nearly 30 murders a day. She was known for cruelty and her half-starved dogs that she unleashed on prisoners. She got enjoyment out of the torture she inflicted on her prisoners. She was also said to enjoy whipping the prisoners.

She was then transferred to Auschwitz where in 1943 she became the senior SS-supervisor which is the second-highest rank a female camp guard could have.

Irma was sentenced to death and was hanged on December 13th, 1945.
