The attacks on Pearl Harbor were a surpise attack by the Japanese that ended up being a failed mission. They Japanese missed the United States fuel supply and artillery storage. Also, the Japanese wanted to take out the American's aircraft carrier, but the carriers were not at Pearl Harbor. Admiral Yamamoto's quote, "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant"
