Inman and Ada Monroe meet and very few words are spoken from inman. This foreshadows Inmans future for his love for Ada.
Inman is in church, and the congragation is singing, and the confederates are looking for a war. when one of the swanger boys came in a states " we got our selves a war boys". all the men depart with joy and happiness. -

Before he leaves for war
Inman is getting ready to leave when Ada comes to gives him a travel book, with a picture of her, and tells him that she will wait for him. -
While at war in Petersburg
Inman is now at war in petersburg. He is shot in the neck and now in the hospital were they think he will not make it. -
Escaping the hospital.
Inman heals up with his wound to the neck. He escapes the hospital and is now became a desertor. -
Inman meets a Preacher
Inman comes across Preacher Veasey that ia about to throw a slave in a river. he stops the man and finds out that he had impregnated the slave and didn't want anyone to know. Inman made Veasey take the slave back and then tied him to a pole with a note that stated what he had done. -
Inman mets Veasey again
Inman runs up on Veasey again, who is now wanted also. they come up on a boy named junior that offers tolet them stay at his house. They go there and soon the home guard come and takes them away. Union soliders finds them and shoot them all but Inman. -
Meeting the Gost Lady
The goat lady comes and takes inman and carries hime back to her home in the woods. Here she treats Inman's wounds for a couple weaks. -
Sara opens her house to Inman
Inman runs across a house in the woods and goes to ask for food. The lady he meets is Sara and she has a baby.. Inman learns that Sara's hunsband was killed in the war.She gives him food and asks him to sleep with her because she misses her husband.Union soliders come, taking Sara and her baby and demand that they give her food.Once she does they leave the baby outside and take Sara back inside where Inman kills two of the soliders. he tells the third to leave, but before he can Sara shoots him. -
Inmans return
Ada has just shot her first turkey when she sees a man (Inman) walking up the path towards her. She yells and fires her gun. INman realizes its Ada but he doesn't think she remembers him. Once she realizes it him she runs to him and brings him back to where she, Ruby, and Ruby's father are staying. -
Inmans death
The home gurard comes and Georgia kills Teague. Inman follows Birch to kill kill him before he makes it back to town. Birch says that he "has the confidence of youth" and shoots and kills Inman. Birch is killed by Inman in the same moment though. Inman's last words were "I came back". He is refering to his home, Cold Mountain and to Ada.
