Mary meets an Indian boy. His name is Little Turtle. When she sees him, he reminds her of a boy she knew in Marsh Creek Hollow, besides the skin color.

Mary is named "Corn Tassel" because of her yellow hair. The Indians name her when she is in the corn field.

Grandfather Shagbark gives Mary a ladle with a little bird on it. Little Turtle is given a better name, Turkey Feather. She realizes she can understand the Seneca Language.
