TAPs (concurrent)
Qualititative research
Population:translation students
Nature:descriptive
Synchronic
Product was not taken into account -
-
Translation process slowed down
The tool did not allow to get an insight into automatized or internal processes of the students
Students were too much conscious of the fact that they were being recorded. Explained the theory they were supposed to know, as if in an evaluation situation -
ECOLOGICAL VALIDITY
ONTHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
Triangulation: keystroke logging (Translog 2000) + recall protocols + post task questionnaire
Quantitative- qualititative research
Population: Translation students
Nature: descriptive
FOCUS: Test the validity of combinaion and triangulation as observation resources -
-
Multiple observation resources proved to be a success.
It allowed for in-depth observation of the process.
Quality data was supported by quantitative information. Quantity data was explained by qualitative information.
Research group decision: continue using the same observation tools and applied them to an specific translation difficulty. -
Sample was not large enough to make any kind of generalizations
As there was no product assessment, the information was kept to a descriptive level -
Triangulation: keylogging (Translog 2006)+ recall protocols + post task questionnaire
Quantitative- qualitative
Population: translation students
Nature: descriptive and explanatory
FOCUS:
Determine causal relations. Which are the causes that generate translation difficulties in subjectivity markers.
NEW: assessment of product -
-
Assessment of product allowed comparison between process and product in terms of efficient time management.
Descriptive + explanatory approach had a more direct impact on translation didactics. -
-
Continue with combination and triangulation and explore new observation tools.
Develop more human resources.
Publish the results so as to get more people in the country involved in process research.
Share the experience gained and suggest possible applications to translation didactics.
