The Crash
The family gets into the car on a regular day arguing their usual battle of what to put on the radio. They only were able to here the first few bars of Beethoven's Cello Sonata no. 3 until the car was demolished. A four-ton pickup truck, going sixty miles an hour had plowed straight into the passenger side. Mia automatically sees that both of her parents are dead, but she can't find Teddy. She runs to what she thinks is Teddy's hand, but then she realizes its not Teddy. It's her. -

If I Stay
The book "If I stay" is about a girl named Mia who is in a car crash and ends up in a coma. She has lost both of her parents and her brother in this crash, but she is stuck in a world where she has the choice to live or go with her parents. Throughout this story there are flashbacks and memories that help Mia realize what the best choice for her is. -
Surgery
Mia can see herself in surgery now. She sees that the doctors are removing her spleen and inserting a tube to drain her collapsed lung. There wasn't much they could do for her brain of course. She doesn't understand where she is. She doesn't know if she is dead or alive. Then, the doctors announce that she is in a coma. Now she has the choice of whether she wants to live or die, -
Kim
Mia's best friend Kim and her mother come in to see Mia. Kim's mother has been crying of course, but Kim refuses to cry, She knows that Mia is still here somehow. Mia sees how upset everyone is, and she is trying to choose her place. She misses her family, but if she leaves she might be missing a lot more. -
Mia's Condition
Mia watches the social worker sitting at her bedside as she looks through her chart. After she reads the charts and talks to the nurses, Mia follows her downstairs as she goes to talk to her family. She doesn't want to believe that she is in a coma, but it really hits her when the social worker tells her family. The social worker also said she has a fighting chance. Mia didn't know if she was willing to fight without her family. -
Adam
Mia watches her boyfriend, Adam, come in the main entrance with Kim behind him. When he gets to the hallway the nurse says only immediate family is allowed to see her. He begs the nurses, but of course they say no. Adam and Kim cause a big commotion until the nurse threatens to call security. Then they stopped, but they would find a way to get in to see her. -
The Plan
Mia starts looking for Adam and Kim after she had seen everything happen in the lobby. She finds them hiding on the trauma floor several hallways from the ICU. They found an unlocked supply closet and went in and locked the door. They were looking for a janitor's outfit or a nurse's outfit to get in, but they knew they wouldn't get in that worry. Then Adam knows of a bigger distraction, and he calls it "The Bat Signal." -
The Bat Signal
Adam decides to get the leader of the band Bikini, Brooke Vega. The original plan was for someone to shout out her name but that didn't work. She started singing, and everyone is paying attention to her. Just as soon as Adam and Kim get to Mia's room two security guards pull them back. They take them down to security. Their plan didn't work. -
Mia's Second Surgery
Mia is listening in on Willow and Adam's conversation in the security room. She hears Willow tell Adam that Teddy is gone, so she runs back to her room to see herself getting take back to surgery. At this point, Mia really doesn't want to stay. Especially without Teddy. He was who she was worried about the most. -
Adam and Mia
Adam finally gets in to see Mia after all of the fighting he had to do. Mia is listening to Adam talk to her, and she isn't so sure she wants to leave now. She realizes that even without her family she still has other family and friends that care about her. There are things that are important here too. Especially Adam. -
Mia Wakes Up
After Adam talked to her, Kim had come in for a while. At that point Mia was feeling very tired, and she really had the feeling she was going to die. Then, after Kim left, Adam came back in. All of a sudden she felt this sharp pain, and she had seen her life flash before her eyes. Instead of seeing Adam this time, she felt him. She was alive, and she was staying.
