    Hugo (right) was born on July 28, 1954. Hugo was born in Sabaneta, which is a small town in Venezuela with the population of 2,490 in 1990. He was the son to two school teachers.

    When Hugo was a teenager he was influenced by Jose Esteban Ruiz Guevara who was a local historian. He introduced Hugo to Bolivar and Karl Marx. They are two German Philosophers who was one of the father of communism. They both had an impact on Hugo’s political philosophy.

    When Hugo grew up he decided to attend Venezuelan military academy to become an army officer. He graduated in 1975 with a degree in military arts and science. He was then an officer in the army paratrooper unit.

    A while after he got his degree and was more experienced he decided to plan an attack on the government in 1992. Thankfully the group failed and wasn’t able to gain power over the government.

    After Hugo Chavez was released from jail in 1994 he then later in 1998 ran for president of Venezuela. Being thrown in jail didn’t stop residents from voting for him. He campaigned against government corruption and promised economic reforms and so was then elected as president.

    While Hugo was president he created a new constitution for Venezuela. In 1999 this changed the name to be Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

    The National Liberation Armed Forces(FALN), which is the communist guerrilla insurgency. The FALN later ended up fighting the venezuelan government. The FALN was supported by Fidel Castro, who also ended up becoming Chavez’s political muse. A political muse is an inspiration towards someone.

    Later in 2002 after he made a new constitution he focused on controlling the oil companies. This led to riots and bickering, and also tense relations with the United States and other nations. Chavez then found himself briefly removed from power in april of 2002.

    All this protesting led to a referendum on whether Hugo should remain president. The voting was held in 2004 and was declared to remain president for the rest of his term.

    In 2013 on March 5th, Chavez died from a long battle of cancer. Many missed Chavez and many didn’t.
