As the area in which the Cecil is located fell into decline, suicides and violent deaths began to become frequent in the facility.

It was also a common meeting point for adulterous couples, drug-related activities, and prostitution.

It is said that in 1947, Elizabeth Short, nicknamed by the press as "the Black Dahlia", was seen having a drink in Cecil's bar, just days before her murder, which to this day remains unsolved.

On February 11, 1962, 50 year old, Julia Moore, after paying a night at the hotel, jumped from the eighth floor window and her body hit the second floor railing. The causes of the suicide were never known.
In that same year, Paulinne otten jumped from the ninth floor after an argument with her husband, fell on George Gianinni, 65 years old, who was walking down the street, both died. -
Pigeon Goldie, 79 years old, was found dead in her room. She had been raped, stabbed and beaten, and her room had been ransacked,
the murder has not yet been solved. -
Serial killer Richard Ramirez, nicknamed "the night stalker," is believed to have been staying at the hotel during the 1980s.
It is possible that during his stay at the Cecil he committed many of his murders. -
The Austrian Jack Unterweger, stayed at the Cecil in 1991, probably in the form of "tribute" to Richard Ramirez. During his stay, he strangled and murdered at least three sex workers.His trademark was strangling them with his own bra.

Elisa Lam, in a security video shows how she constantly pushes the elevator buttons and goes in and out of it several times, as if she wanted to hide from someone. The video was filmed shortly before his disappearance. His naked body was later found in one of the water tanks on the roof of the hotel, after several guests complained about the strange taste and low water pressure. Why and How Lam entered the tank remains a mystery to this day.

Despite the history of this hotel, it is currently being renovated and remodeled, renamed to Stay on Main after changing owners in 2014, the Los Angeles City Council voted for the Cecil to be considered a historical and cultural monument, by Being a typical American hotel from the beginning of the century and also because of the historical importance of its architectural works.
