Buchtel College is Founded.
Since its very start, the University has grown on the generosity of its benefactors. John R. Buchtel persuaded fellow business leaders and colleagues to join him in raising funds to build and endow the college. Since, it has burnt down but was replaced by Akron University. -
The B. F. Goodrich Company is Incorporated
This is really the start of dominant rubber companies in Akron. This company helped to start this successful and impactful trend. -
Goodyear is Founded
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is a tire manufacturing company founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling and based in Akron, Ohio. It was probably the most successful rubber company back then, and is still the most well-known. -
Firestone Rubber Company is Founded
The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company is another tire company founded by Harvey Samuel Firestone in 1900 to supply pneumatic tires for buggies, wagons, and many other forms of wheeled transportation. -
World War 1
World War I was a global war originating in Europe that lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. More than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, fought in this war. -
General Tires
General Tire was founded in 1915 in Akron, Ohio, by William F. O'Neil. The tire and rubber division was sold to Germany's Continental in 1987, and is now known as Continental Tire North America, Inc. For coming into the rubber industry late, they were relatively successful. -

WW2
A global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although many conflicts began earlier. It involved many of the world's countries—including all of the great powers. It was really just a follow up to WW1.
