Leisel's brother Warner dies in a train. Leisel is especially impacted by this because she sees Warner take his last breath. Leisel was extremely close to her brother.

Leisel was put into a foster home after her brother Warner died. She was sent to live in a home with her new mama and papa; hans and rosa.

Leisel becomes good friend's with Rudy and he tries to kiss her over a bet. Leisel becomes extremely close to Rudy throughout the novel. Rudy and Leisel are extremely close.

Alex has to have a serious talk with Rudy after Rudy dresses up as Jesse Owens. Alex has to have a strict conversaiton and how they do not want to be seen as black people or Jews.

Leisel learns how to write with her papa hans. Hans first teaches Leisel how to write on sandpaper in the middle of the night after she wakes up from a nightmare. She writes the alphabet.

The beginning of World War II started. Germany invaded Poland and this is what started the War.

Max comes to live with Hans, Rosa, and Leisel because Hans' bestfriends wife needed a place for him to go and since Hans knew his father he took Max in. Leisel has to deal with getting to know Max and him living in her home.

Leisel steals for the first time. She steals apples with Rudy. This is one of the first "criminal" acts that she and rudy perform together. Stealing leads on to one of their natural things they do in their everyday lives.

The US declared war on Japan and Germany. Japan and Germany accepted and a war was in the process.

The Germans established the Treblinka Concentration Camp. People were sent here if they lived close and were jews.

Leisel witnesses her father and a standing by jew get whipped. This is hard for Leisel because she loves her father very much. Leisel witnesses her papa being beaten because he tried to throw bread to the standing by Jew.

Alex has to make a serious descison if he wants Rudy to attend the Nazi school. Alex says no, because he has heard what has happened to little boys that attend these kind of schools.

Alex and Hans get drunk the night before they go off to war becaue they realize it might be one of the last times that they cna drink. Alex doesnt get as drunk as Hans but they both get drunk.

Alex goes off to war the day after he gets drunk. Alex and Hans are going off to war and it was a really sad time because he realized that he might not be coming back to see his family. Alex also had to close his shop to make sure that alex's wife didnt have a lot on her plate.

Leisel finds max in the parade of Jews. She finds Max using a way of words. Max and her walk together through the parade until a soldier finds her. She fights against him and finds Max again and eventually gets whipped and falls along the roads of Himmel Street.

After Leisel pays a visit to Ilsa's house to return the plate that she stole with the cookies on it, Ilsa comes to see Leisel and gives her a little black book thats full of blank pages for Leisel to write stories on.

Leisel survives the bombings and everyone else dies. Leisel only survived because she was writing in her little black book in her basement and everyone else was sleeping.

Leisel realizes after the bombings that Rudy had died. She goes to him and kisses him twice. Leisel does this because she had wanted him to kiss her for a little while now. Leisel is very destressed because she just lost her bestfriend.

Germany then occupied Hungary. Hungary was in a tragic state.

The inmates of Buchenwald walked to their death. They had no idea that Hitler would later die that same year.

Hitler commits suicide. Everyone was happy and some were sad. He was known as a psycho man.

Bombs flooded Nagasaki. People fled and ran everywhere seeking for help. This is one of the many tragic things that Hitler did to people.

Japan surrenders and ends World War II. People rejoice in the United States.
