  • Birth of the Ku Klux Klan

    Birth of the Ku Klux Klan
    The Ku Klux Klan was born to kill the African Americans and sympathetic whites. They would wear white robes, cardboard hats, and masks. The leaders were mostly confederate army members and the first grand wizard was Nathan Forrest. They played an important role in restoring white rule in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.
  • Plessy vs Ferguson court case

    Plessy vs Ferguson court case
    In 1896, a man named Homer Plessy who was 1/8 African American tried to ride in the nicer White car of a locomotive. He was kicked out and required to sit in the "Colored only" car. He refused and was arrested on the scene. The case went straight to the supreme court where the decision was that schools, water fountains, trains, and many other things were to be seperated but equal.
  • Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was the first black male to debut in Major League Baseball. He started off playing in the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. He was instrumental to bringing racial segregation to an end. Jackie was also put into the baseball hall of fame in 1962 then soon retired his number as 42 in the year 1997.
  • Brown v Board of Education

    Brown v Board of Education
    A black child was unallowed to attented a "white people" school. In responce the family sued the bored of education, causing borwn v bored of education, Brown won, overruling the Plessy v Ferguson decision. They claimed, "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." This lead to the mixture of all color in schools.
  • Malcolm X

    Malcolm X
    Malcolm X was born on May 19th, 1925 and went through drugs, robberys, and arrests in his youth. While in prison, he became a part of the Nation of Islam. Shortly after his parole in 1952, he quickly rose through the ranks of leadership in the group until he became the main leader. He would spread his messages through speeches targeted to all groups of race gender, and ages. He was assassinated on Feburary 21st, 1965. Although he is gone, his message lives.

    The Black Panther party
    While Martin Luther King Jr used nonviolence to get his message around, a group called the Black Panthers used militant methods to get their messages to the minds of people. They were known for their fights with police, but also providing food for poor African Americans. They were so famous, they were in Forrest Gump! They used their violence to protect the African American population from the brutal Police Force.

    Martin Luther King Jr
    A african amercan, activist, who was a leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement. He used nonviolent, methods folllowing those of Gandhi. He was the youngest persn to recieve a Noble Peace Prize. He was born January 15, 1929 and was killed April 4, 1968.
