    The first widely available game on the computer was Spacewar! This game was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology largely due to the Computers being a commodity at the time.This started the video game craze and the market began to expand.
  • The Beginning of Commercialization

    The Beginning of Commercialization
    Around the 1700’s many companies attempted to capitalize on the video game craze,the most notable was Magnavox.The Magnavox was somewhat like a plug-in to your television which you would plug in, put on the screen, and play.The game however was a simple but difficult game to master,pong.The simple game of hitting a white cube back and forth between lines became the first notable commercially advertised game.

    The Beginning of the Golden Age
    The 18th century greatly impacted the development of Video Games and their marketing.This year released one of the most infamous game of all time dubbed "Space Invaders" a game where you play as a ship and fire at aliens occasionally flying toward you and hitting your ship making you lose a life.The next 4 years introduced an influx of arcades and a growth of arcade machines in places other than arcades as well.

    The 19th century saw the release of many infamous consoles such as the NES or the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis which are prized even to this day.On top of this Nintendo released the gameboy the best portable console for its time.Atari also began to make gaming home computers starting with the Atari 8-bit Family.

    Around this time the market began to become oversaturated with bland tasteless games that took next to no effort which caused games to go down significantly in price.Video games lacked the unique and complicated gameplay that the first introduced.Video games began to get thrown out because of the space they took up.
  • Nintendo's Surge

    Nintendo's Surge
    This year saw the release of another one of Nintendo's biggest titles Zelda along with other big titles such as Dragon Quest,Final Fantasy, and Phantasy Star.Zelda was very impactful for its time because most games at the time didn't carry much story to it or gameplay like Zelda's.Nintendo's popped off this year releasing influential games to the culture and overall rejuvenating the genre after the crash.

    The year 1991 saw the most infamous fighting game in all of history Street Fighter.Street fighter started the influx of fighting games because of its competitive game play and skill gap.Street fighter is very prominent even to this day having Street Fighter 2 being the most competitively played.
  • Improvement of the Hardware

    Improvement of the Hardware
    The controller saw the improvement of overall functionality in the 20th century adding an analog stick and buttons like the x and y to the Nintendo controller.The memory cards of the consoles also saw an improvement with additional memory cards that you could bu separately from the console to add more storage.Consoles around this time also became 16-bit allowing for more detail in characters and having a higher polygon count.
