    The pilgrims left England because they wanted religious and political freedom. The long, difficult journey across the Atlantic Ocean continued for 65 days. There were stroms on the way and water entered the ship, but the pligrims decided to continue on the New World.

They were very excited because their journey was near the end, the ship finally reached land and some pilgrims decided to explore the area. They saw a good place and decided to build a village there. The colonists through this was ridiculous because they didn´t have a representative in the british goverment, so they refused to pay the taxes.

    On 4th July, 1776, the colonies declared independence from Great Britain, the leaders published the Declaration of Independence on this date. Then, the fighting started. The colonists, led by George Washington, fought many long, difficult battles. In the end, they defeated the British and sugned the Teatry of Paris in 1783, they called their new nation the United States of America (USA).

They forced more than 1500 Cherokee people to leaves their homes in Georgia and walk 1600 kilometres to their new territory. Around 4000 Cherokee people died on the way and they called this journey the "Trail of Tears".

    In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was the president of the USA and he wanted to end slavery. In 1861, the south has got their Confederacy, Confederate soldiers attacked a Union fort called Fort Sumter yesterday. So they were at war! 1864, This war was terrible! Thousands of people are dead. Both people in the north and south were suffer. 1865, Finally the Confederate army leader, surrendered to General Ulysses Grant. In the end the slaves were free and the country was one nation.
