    A court case that focused on treating people fairly when people had to make decisions about their benefits. It helped support education programs. Students who relied on public assistance benefited from the case.

    This case came about because seven students were denied education for having disabilities. Court ruled that all students should be provided education though they may not have the funds to pay for the cost of education. It was one of the first cases that guaranteed the right of students with disabilities to have an education.

    This law was passed to make it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities that had federal funding. It covers all students who have a physical or mental disability. It helps students stay in general education classes.

IDEA is used for schools to work with families to create plans to focus on their childern's needs.

    Law was passed for students to improve in their achievements. Schools have to keep track of their students progress using standardized tests. Schools had to meet their goals or else schools had to make changes to staff and instruction.

    This act improved and updated the special education law. It strengthened the original Individuals with Disabilities Act. It raised standards for special education licensure. It focused on helping students succeed in their regular classrooms and supported inclusion.

    Every Student Succeeds Act

    This act replaced No Child Left behind and was signed by President Obama. States are able to be more in control over education decisions. There are still standardized tests but there is more flexibility for schools. There is flexibility in how funds are used.
