Thurgood Marshall on behalf of the NAACP challenged separate but equal. This ruled in favor of the student (Brown) allowing her to go to the school closest to her house. This ruling stated separate is not equal.

Anne McGlone Burke, with the help and funding from Eunice Kennedy Shrive, created an event where 1,000 athletes from across the United States and Canada participated in track and swimming events. Held at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL, Shriver announced the formation of Special Olympics.
