    First Special Education class in the US was in Rhode Island.
  • Goddard

    Goddard
    TH. Goddard teaches people with disabilities at Vineland Training School for Feebleminded Boys and Girls. The belief was that people with disabilities inherited it. Also during this time there was a movement to institutionalize people with disabilties and forbid them from having children.
  • Alfred Benit

    Alfred Benit
    Alfred Binet develops an IQ test that tests "slow" and "retarded children. It was later modified by Lewis Terman of Stanford and called the Stanford Binet test.

    Section 504 was passed that made it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities (Friend & Bursak,2012).

    Nixon passes legislation that returns 1/3 of 200,000 people with disabilities to residential settings.

IDEA made teacher responsible for providing appropiate education in the least restrictive environment, while ADA that required accessibilty for people with disabilities and also prohibited discrimination.

    No Child Left Behind
    No Child Left Behind is part of the reauthorization of Elementary and Secondary Education. This law requires that teachers be highly qualified and that children meet standardized testing score requirements in order to meet AYP (Friend & Bursak,2012).
