The Thais settles in the area the Khmer civilization used to live. Buddhism was brought by the Thais from India and Sri Lanka. Buddhism began to replace Hinduism.

The conlonization of South-east Asia was led by the Portugese. They came after conlonies around the world. Then they came to South-east Asia and stayed there for the spices and other trading goods.

Magellan reached the Phillipienes and claimed it for Spain. Whoever followed them, came to spread Roman Cathlosim or trade. It is still a major religion to this day,
Arrival of Dutch traders
The Dutch arrived and drove the Portugesse out. The Portugesse kept Timor though. They gained tea and spices.
U.S ownership of the Philippines
The U.S won the Philippines from Spain after the Spanish-American war. After the war, colonies ruled most of the region. Thailand was the only one not conlinized.
The WWII Japanese invasion of the Philippines
During Japan's invasion, they controlled the land but lost it in 1945. Afterward, the U.S gave the Philippines independence. Then more countries wanted the invade and take over the Philippines.
The civil wars in Cambodia
1954, the year that civil wars started in Cambodia when the French left the land. indochina then split into Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. All countries fought for land after seperation.
The Vietnam war
The French left Vietnam leading into North and South Vietnam to fight. North Vietnam was Communist and South Vietnam was democratic. North Vietnam invaded South Vietnam to spread communism but the U.S. troops backed up South Vietnam. In the end, North Vietnam combined both countries for one communist Vietnam
The emergence of Khmer civilization
The Khmer civilization ruled from 800 AD to the mid 1200's. They ruled in what today Cambodia. Angkor Wat was a huge temple the Khmer civilization built many years ago.
