In 1983 the NES was released. This was Nintendo's first video game system.

In 1989 the GameBoy was released. This was a huge success and a big step forward in hand held gaming.

On November 21 1990 the SNES was released. This was Nintendo's attempt to come back at Sega and they ended up winning this battle by selling about 20 million more consoles.

On February 27 1996, Nintendo released pokemon Red and Green versions for the GameBoy. It was a huge success!

On June 23 1996 the Nintendo 64 was released. This was another big success and sold tons of units.

On September 30 1998 Pokemon Blue version was released in North America. This is one of the very first games and it is the first one to be released in North America (not Japan.)

On October 21 '98 Nintendo released their new system, the GameBoy color. This system would run some of the new Pokemon games, and IN COLOR!

It was a little more than a year after Pokemon's release in North America when Nintendo sold 7 million copies of the games. The top five selling games were all five of the Pokemon games at this point.

On October 14 2000 Pokemon Gold and Silver versions were released. These games were some of the most highly regarded Pokemon games of the series and were made for Nintendo's new system the GameBoy Color.

On March 26 2001 Pokemon Stadium 2 was released. This was unlike earlier games because it had no real story, but you could battle other Pokemon and become the best trainer in the world. It was made for the Nintendo 64 system.

On September 14 2001 the Nintendo Gamecube was released. This was the first Nintendo system to use optical discs, and was another big success.

On March 17 2003 Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire versions were released. These games were highly regarded by Japanese critics before their release in North America and did extremely well here too.

On November 21 2004 Nintendo's newest handheld system, the DS was released. This was a very popular system with a state of the art touch screen.

On November 19 2006 the Wii console was released. This was the first system to incorporate movement and sensors to get a more lifelike playing experience.

On April 22 2007 Pokemon Diamond and Pearl versions were released. This was a huge event as half a million people pre-ordered the game, and Nintendo threw a gigantic party at Rockefeller Plaza for the release of the game.

On April 9 2010 Pokemon Black and White versions were released. These are the newest games and were made for the new Nintendo DS system.
