    Development of Radio and Television

    As radio gained in popularity during the First World War and as television became more popular in the 1950's, a new delivery system in education was found. These both provided alternative ways to reach individuals outside of the classroom.
  • National University Extension Association

    The creation of NUEA allowed the focus to expand to other issues including models and guidelines on the national level and within policies of universities to accept the credits obtained from correspondence courses. The creation of the NUEA also wanted standards for educators of correspondence courses.
  • University of Chicago survey

    In 1933, the University of Chicago, based on survey findings, found that sorrespondence study should be considered as experimental with hopes that it would provide more information and data for review.

    This project provided hope for additional research opportunites in distance education and that a definition could be given to correspondence studies in higher education.

    The UK designed programs using technology and print-based curriculum for distance education. The success of this program encouraged the use of distance education technologies in other countries.

    In 1971 NYSESC was the first open university that attempted to make degree programs easier for people to obtain, focusing on individuals who needed different options that weren't available in traditional colleges.

    In 1991, eighteen institutions used the Mind Extension University (MEU), Educational Network to deliver video course materials for independent study courses.
