    In England, Hooke was receiving letters from Anton Van Leeuwenhoek, who really loved all science. He named the cell after monk's rooms that were cells. But he was underappreciated as he criticised Sir Issac Newton's work as copied off his own.

    Heard about microscopes and made his own. He discovered bacteria through dental gunk- he called them animalcules

    Schleiden (in Germany) studied plants under microscopes and noticed they were all made of cells, Schwann made a similar discovery while studying animal cells, and together they proposed the Cell Theory
