    Pequot War
    In the 1630s the conflict between the New England settlers and the Pequot Indians grew and this war became inevitable. It was not much of a war at all but more of an extermination of the Pequot Indians by the New Englanders and set up control for the colonists over all of the southern New England tribes. This gruesome bloodshed only foreshadowed what was to come with the relationship between the Native Americans and the Colonists. page 41 book
  • Metacom's War (King Philips War)

    Metacom's War (King Philips War)
    King Philip was the name that the English gave to Metacom. This was the first large-scale conflict which broke out in Plymouth. The New Englanders had settled and expanded onto Indian territories with complete disregard for their corn fields, which their cattle trampled. The New Englanders arrogance ultimately led to the conflict. Metacom and his men attacked fifty two puritan towns. Ultimately Metacom killed one in ten of the colonists. This war showed the Indians willingness to unite and fight
  • Bacons Rebellion

    Bacons Rebellion
    This came as a result of Metacom's War. As Indian warriors raided english outposts in Virginia the demands of the laboring people caused a revolt. The governor of the colony William Berkely was reluctant to retaliate to try and keep good trade relations between them and several Indian nations. This reluctance ultimately led to the rebellion.

  • Pueblo Revolt

    Pueblo Revolt
    This was an uprising in New Mexico against the spaniards by the local villages. Several of them got together and burned Spanish farms, destroyed churches, and killed half of the friars. This caused the Spanish to leave the southwest for over a decade. page 51 book
  • King William's War

    King William's War
    This war began when New York's governor provoked the Iroquois into attacking the French friendly Indian nations. Once this ensued the French retaliated by not only attacking the Indian nations but also the English colonists in New England. This war proved influential in three ways; it made the French fortify its New World position, showed how Europeans can manipulate Indians, and helped the french establish better relations with the Iroquois.

  • Queen Anne's War

    Queen Anne's War
    This war was a twelve year battle between the Spanish in FL, the French in the American interior, and the English up the coast. It finally ended with English victory but was important for a few reasons. It gave the English a base on the Hudson Bay, it also helped both them and the French get more established and entrenched in the New World.

  • French and Indian War / Seven Years War pg 81

    French and Indian War /  Seven Years War pg 81
    This battle was known as the Seven Years War in Europe and the French and Indian War in North America. This ultimately tryed to remove France from North American so that England could take advantage of the lucrative trade routes. Though it started in 54 the English didn't take it seriously until 58 and extreme brutality and warfare followed. After a year the English were well ahead and a year later hostilities ceased. In 63 the three nations signed the Treaty of Paris to bring it to an end.

    Though this was not a battle it was a momentous event that many feel provoked the English and united the Americans, it plunged them both into the revolutionary war. This destruction of a ship loads worth of tea came after the English wanted to tax the colonits on tea that they were importing. The isssue was not the tax, but the fact that England had created a tax to something that they had nothing to with in America and this outraged many peope. Eventually leading to the Sons of Libertys actions

    Revolutionary War
    The Revolutionary War was essentially was brought the United States of America into its beginnings. After the signing of the Declaration of Independence the war took place in the colonies. Though the Americans eventually did win it was hard fought and at points very grim. On a very basic level this war freed the patriots of the Crowns control. Soon after they faced the challenge of creating a new nation that kept the revolutionary spirit, without letting it get out of control. pg122
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The War of 1812 was over the fact that Britain refused to recognize American neutrality more so though because the western settlers were blaming Britain for the increase in Indian Violence in the midwest. Ultimately, though the nation was split on wanting war or not, the Americans declared war on the Britain. This was, as the Democratic-Republicans were convinced, "a second war for American independence".
  • Mexican-America War

    Mexican-America War
    The Mexican-American was caused by Texas winning its independence from Mexico and Mexico not acknowledging that. On this date was when mexican forces crossed the Rio Grande and shed "American blood on American soil". Though the territory in Texas was still disputed, this is what forced the Americans to retaliate. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is what ended this war and granted most of the west to the United States. As well as settled the border dispute. pg245
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    One of the defining moments in our nations young history. The North vs South dispute in what many know as a war about slavery. Though yes that was a big factor others were the national government pushing laws onto the states. The war was from 1861-1865. The Union was largely losing up until 1863 when the wars tides turned. The largest loss of American life in a war to this date. Though the war was over, northerners and southerners would still have their differences long after this war.
