    This was a battle that made a turning point in the war. The Americans forced around 5,000 British troops to surrender. France and America became allies as they declare war on the British. The British moving south gave America time to regroup.

    The French blockade made it impossible for the British to escape the war. Around 8,700 enemy troops surrendered. By September 28, Washington was completely circled.
