    The pilgrims are puritans were the first to establish a schooling system. They were the first to write books for their children and establish a firm educational system.

    Ben Franklin
    Ben Franklin established the first public library along with a new high school that focused on students adult lives. This led to a growth of high schools throughout the U.S.
  • Normal Schools

    Normal Schools
    Horace Mann established Normal Schools which focused on teaching as a profession. The classroom is where students focus was on learning.
  • American Federation of Teachers

    American Federation of Teachers
    The forming of the AFT was significant because teachers voices could now be heard. Teachers, having their own organization, could now call for social change through policy.
  • Brown v Board of Education

    This was vital ruling that ended segregation in schools. This would mark the beginning/start to the fight for integration into schools.
