When Ruth and Isabel docked on New York Island, Madam and Elihu Lockton was disputing over wether their housemaid, Becky, should go and get water for tea or one of the girls and they decided that Isabel would go and get the water. Curzon stepppped in and said he would take here to the water pump. While walking to the water pump Curzon was trying to convince Isabel to be a spy and reaport anything that may be of importance.

Isabel, while serving Elihu Lockton and his buddies overheard them talking about trying to assinate George Washington. During the time they were talking, Elihu made the person charge of the idea to write all the names down on a sheet of paper, the people who played roles and the people who just know about it. That night Isabel, when everybody was asleep, she went into the room and grabbed the paper that was locked underkey. She went to Clonel reagan who was at the southern tip of the island.

Isabel wakes up and Ruth isnt in the Potato bin that they sleep in. Isabel confronts Madam Lockton, and then Isabel smacks Madam and runs out the door to the Battery fort that is the headquarters for the patriots. But, Madam Lockton catches her and Isabel is thrown in jail. A few days later she woke upin a jail cell severely ill. But, for her punishment for running awya from her master she has a letter burned onto her left cheek. An I that stands for insolence.

Madam wanted more tea that afternoon, so Becky told Isabel to go and fetch some water at the tea water pump. While talking to Grandfather( Grandfather isnt really her Grandfather, everybody calls him that at the water pump. Gradnfather pumps the water.) Curzon comes out of the shadows of the building that was built around the pump for protection. And he states himself as a American soldier.

Isabel wakes up to New York Isalnd burning down. Isabel heard earlier from Madam that the loyalistswere planning to attack New York Island at night while they were sleeping, and Isabel was meaning to warn Cloneal Regean. But, Madam kept a real close eye on Isabel. Everything she needed or wanted she would send for Isabel and if she wanted more tea water she would send Beck to go and fetch it.

While Madam and her "freinds" got an invite to go to a ball and had to leave late morning to arrive on time. While Madam and her "freinds" where gone Isabel took a bucket of scrap food and went to the Bridewell Prison where prisoners and war where kept.

Isabel is allowed to have the day of since it is Christmas. Isabel doesnt know what to do since the only places she has really been in New York Island is the prison, port, grocers, and the Locktons house. She decided to walk around the island and at nightfall she walked back to the Lockton's house and made fresh bread putting and added a couple of apples, chicken braests. She went back out with a basket full of the food and went to one of the small tent house and gave them the food.

After Isabel got back to the Lockton's house, Madam was in the kitchen. Madam personally eascorted her to the upstairs living room. Madam let her fury out to say that how dare she ruin her preputation, etc. Madam found out about Isabel going to tthe Bridewell Prison to give food to the prisoners.

Isabel pretended to gho and clean up the cells at the Bridewell prison. While in there she took Curzon and fleed. She found a small dingy along the dock of New York Island. And Curzon sleeped while, Isabel rowed them tot he river of freedom.
