The first State Board of Education opened in Massachusetts with Horace Mann as the first appointed Secretary. While traveling as the secretary he spoke to the schools and teachers about better teaching methods and various recommendations for better educational environments. With his influence the Father or American Education pushed the ideals the United States still has today of a free, universal, and nonsectarian education for all children.

G. Stanley Hall’s beliefs lead to a child-centered approach of learning. By taking into account the child’s needs and personalities it is easier to determine their learning style in order to enhance their educational development to its fullest potential.

With this ruling of separate being inherently unequal, all children are eligible to learn in the same environment. In turn this bridges the some of the gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students due to race if the curriculum is held to the same standard for all races.

Online learning has opened an entirely new field of the learning experience that is only expected to expand and continue to influence the educational environment. Many schools now have some aspects of learning online. Virtual learning offers student’s a more flexible schedule and broader depth to one’s learning for motivated students, and more time for students who are struggling.

The act put more influence on standardized tests as a measurement for a student’s and teacher’s ability. NCLB also brought priority to having highly qualified teachers and the ideal that all children can achieve excellence.
