    Born in Chicago Illinois, she is a former U.S. Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, and First Lady of the United States. As a child she was considered to be a teacher's favorite. She participated in swimming, baseball, and other sports. She also won numerous awards as a Brownie and Girl Scout. In highschool she was involved in the student council, school newspaper, and was selected for the National Honor Society. She graduated in the top 5% of her class in 1965.

In the spring of 1962, Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most controversial men in America. That night after delivering a stirring speech on civil rights and the future of America, he shook hands with 15-year-old Hillary.

At Wellesley, she majored in political science and served as president for the Wellesley Young Republicans. She then attended Yale Law School where she earned a J.D. in 1973 and where she also met Bill Clinton.

The first time that Bill proposed marriage to her, she declined. He repeatedly asked her to marry him and she continued to decline. She eventually moved to Arkansas with Bill and agreed to marry him.

    Hillary joined the Rose Law Firm and was made a full partner in 1979. She was the first female partner in the firm. The National Law Journal listed her twice as one of the hundred most influential lawyers in America. From 1978 until they entered the White House, she had a higher salary than her husband Bill. During her time as First Lady of Arkansas, she continued to work at Rose Law Firm making more than $200,000 in her final year there.

In the White House she had an office in the West Wing in additon to the usual office on the East Wing. She is regarded as being the most openly empowered First Lady in American History along with Eleanor Roosevelt. As First Lady she hosted numerous White House Conferences including many to do with child care, development, and learning.

On May 6th a narrower than expected win in the Indiana primary along with a large loss in the North Carolina primary ended any realistic chance of winning the nomination.

    2008 June 7 -- Ends campaign for US President. Following the final primaries on June 3, 2008, Obama had gained enough delegates to become the presumptive nominee. Knowing she had been defeated, Hillary joined forces with Obama and urged veryone to do all they could to help elect Barack Obama.

    Selected by President Obama to serve as Secretary of State. She served in that position until 2013. She was the 67th Secretary of State. As Secretary of State, she was at the forefront of the U.S. response to the Arab Spring, advocating for the U.S. military intervention in Libya. She viisted more countries than any other Secretary of State. Her views were that "smart power" were strategies for asserting U.S. leadership and values.
