    Hubble Space Telescope Mission

    The mission to launch the Hubble Space Telescope began in the 1970s, and the telescope was finally launched into orbit in the year 1990. The mission was a major milestone in the history of space exploration and astronomy."The telescope has helped scientists understand how planets and galaxies form" (NASA, 2020). In addition, it provided scientists with enough information that it expanded the understanding of space. We would not know what we do now without the efforts of this mission.

    The Columbine changed the American school system forever, as it sparked discourse on school safety and gun laws. "The shooting highlighted the lack of preparation and strategy needed to respond to a fast-moving massacre that was over in minutes, but left a trail of destruction and death" (Mark, 2019). It continues to be remembered as a reminder of the need for ongoing efforts to prevent violence and promote safety in our communities and schools.

    The OJ Simpson case was one of the most high-profile criminal trials in American history, and it had a significant impact on American culture and society. The case became intensely centered around race relations in the US and the legal system. "The Simpson trial generated over $1 billion in media and The Simpson trial generated over $1 billion in media and merchandising sales."(Grenon, 2020). The OJ Simpson case was one of the first criminal trials to be covered extensively by the media.

    Bill Clinton was impeached due to his lie under oath in regard to his affair. His affair to intern, Monica Lewinsky, effected her more than Clinton.The trial was heavily partisan rather than focusing on the actual issue. "Even prominent feminists, who had rallied around Hill's accusations to highlight the pernicious problems of sexual harassment, sided with the accused this time" (Kruse and Zelizer, 227). The impeachment highlighted the true and utter power of the presidency.

    Gore V Bush ultimately decided the outcome of the 2000 presidential election. The Supreme Court's decision effectively handed the presidency to George W. Bush, even though his opponent, Al Gore, had won the popular vote and had a chance of winning the electoral vote if a recount in Florida had proceeded. Many people saw the Supreme Court's decision as partisan and motivated by politics, and it contributed to a sense of mistrust in the political system.

"Americans had witnessed acts of terrorism before, but rarely on their shores and never on a scale like this"(Kruse and Zelizer, 251). The attacks had an immense impact on American society such as, increased security at airports and changes in immigration policies The attacks also contributed to a growing sense of national unity and patriotism, as well as a heightened sense of fear and vulnerability.

    Hurricane Katrina exposed vulnerabilities in the country's infrastructure and emergency response systems, and it sparked important conversations about issues related to climate change, poverty, and social inequality. "An estimated 1,200 people died as a direct result of the storm, which also cost an estimated $108 billion in property damage, making it the costliest storm on record" (Gibbens, 2019). It was one of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes in American history.

She is a strong advocate and representative for the Democratic Party although, she has worked on countless bipartisan legislation.Her rise to highest ranking woman in American politics stands a testament to the power and resilience Pelosi. As a result, Pelosi has recruited and influenced more women and minority groups to Congress. embodies.

    The 2008 election was the most historical election in US history. Barack Obama, who was the Democratic Party nominee, was elected as the 44th president. Obama campaigned on a message of hope and change, promising to bring about positive change to the country. "His candidacy energized African-Americans, who turned out as never before. They increased their share of the electorate to 13 percent, and nearly one-fifth were first-time voters"(NPR, 2008).

    First Hispanic on the Supreme Court

    Sonia Sotomayor is the first Hispanic to be nominated to the Supreme Court. Sotomayor was a a strong advocate for minority rights throughout college and her professional life. "Her strong will, respect for the judicial process, and desire to make an impact are traits that continue to make her time in the court influential" (Angelucci, 2020). Sotomayor is an influence to all women and people of color who want to pursue law and politics. She represents the American dream and progression.
