    Montgomerey, Alabama NAACP member Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a public bus to a white passenger. She was arrested, and the outrage in the civil rights community eventually lead to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It proved to be a critical moment in the struggle for equal rights for African Americans.

    Lead by Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez, the Delano Grape strike proved to be a pivital moment for many hispanics. The stike was organized to protest poor working conditions among farm workers. The United Farm Workers Union urged Americans to boycott non-union graps. Five years, later the boycott succeeded.

    Despite the efforts of women like Representative Martha Griffiths, the Equal Rights Amendment failed to be ratified on June 30, 1982. Over her 20 years on Capital Hill, Griffiths championed the idea that the U.S. Constitution should be amended to guarentee equal rights for all women.
