  • Birth of Frida Kahlo

    Frida was born in a small town outside of Mexico City. She was the third child to her mom and dad.
  • Frida gets Polio

    At the age of 6, Frida got Polio in her right leg. She was stuck in bed for 9 months. It stunted the growth of her right foot. Her dad helped her to get better by putting her in sports to get her exercising.
  • Bus Accident

    Frida was riding the bus when it got hit by another car. Frida got impaled with metal handrail going through her hip. She suffered from a fractured spine and pelvis. She was in the hospital for weeks going through many surgeries. During her recovery, she painted her first self-portrait named Self-Portrait in a Velvet Dress.
  • Marriage

    Frida Kahlo marries, Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera.
  • Frida paints "Frieda and Diego Rivera"

    After two years of marriage, Frida paints a portrait of her and her husband while in San Fransisco. It was her first piece of art that was shown in public. It was shown at the "Sixth Annual Exhibition of the San Francisco Society of Women Artists".
  • "My Dress Hangs There"

    Frida and Deigo had been in the US for more than 3 years when Frida painted "My Dress Hangs There". She began to paint this when Diego was asked to paint a mural in the Rockefeller Center.
  • "Two Fridas"

    Frida moved to live in Paris after she and Diego got divorced. She painted "Two Fridas", a double self-portrait while living in Paris. She also exhibited the painted in Paris.
  • Solo Exhibition

    Frida got her first exhibition in Mexico. She was ill and had to be bedridden at the time. She had her own bed made in the exhibition so she didn't miss out on any openings.
  • Death

    Frida died when she was 47 years old. She died from pulmonary embolism, in her home in Mexico.
