  • King George's War Ends

    The French and the English end one of the wars they fought prior to the French and Indian War. It was ended by the treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle with no obvious victor.

  • First Battle of the French and Indian War

    George Washington takes the French by surprise and wins the first battle of the war.

  • French take Fort Necessity

    In this battle, George Washington made his only military surrender.

  • The Battle of Lake George

    British Colonel William Johnson wins a battle, making him the first British war hero of this war.

  • War Declared

    The British declare war on France. A day later, France declares war on Great Britain.

  • The French Capture Fort Oswego

    Fort Oswego is located on the banks of the Great Lakes.

  • The French Take Fort William Henry

    A massacre ensues.

  • The French take Fort Ticonderoga

  • The British Take Louisbourg

    WIth the capture of Louisbourg, the British have access to Canada.

  • The French Surrender Fort Frontenac

    With Fort Frontenac out of their hands, they are no longer able to communicate with troops in the Ohio Valley.

  • The British Make Peace with Native Americans

    They stop fighting the Iroquois, Shawnee, and Delaware tribes.

  • The British recapture Fort Duquesne

    They rename it "Pittsburgh." It is stil lthere today.

  • The British Capture the French Island of Guadeloupe

    Guadeloupe is located in the Caribbean.

  • The British Take Control of the Entire Western Frontier

    This happened after the British took Fort Niagara and the French gave up Crown Point.

  • The British Win the Battle of Quebec

    Both of the commanding generals in this battle were killed.

  • The Treaty of Paris is Made

    THis formally ends the war.

  • The First Shots of the Revolutionary War are Fired

    The first battles break out at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts.

  • The Colonists Declare Their Independence

    This causes outrage in England.

  • Washington Crosses the Delaware

    They win a battle at Trenton.

  • The British are Defeated at Saratoga

    This inspired the French to join up with the colonists and help them fight England.

  • The French Join the War Against Britain

    This is a major turning point for the war and ultimately resulted in the colonists' victory.

  • The British Take Charleston

    This was one of the worst losses of the war for the colonists.

  • Most of the British Army Surreders at Yorktown

    The French and the rebels had cornered them and they had no choice.

  • The Treaty of Paris is Made

    THis officially ends the war.

  • The Constitution is Made

    This replaces the Articles of Confederation. One of the most signifigant compromise made in it was the decision to include two houses in the Legislative Branch. The Senate would have 2 representatives per state and the House of Representatives would have representation based on population. Senators have six year terms and were meant to operate farther away (figurativly speaking) from the people. Representatives would have two year terms and were meant to be closer to the people.
