Robert Walton is writing his sister and telling her about his preparation to leave to the North Pole. He wants to discover something new like a passage to the other oceans.

Victor tells of his father Alphonse and his mother Caroline, whos Dad died and was Alphonse's friend. They got married after Beaufort(Caroline's father) died and two years later Victor was born.

On a vacation Caroline finds Elizabeth, an orphan and decides to adopt her. When she is adopted Caroline says that Elizabeth and Victor should one day be married.

Robert Walton talks to his sister about how he feels lonely while traveling on the boat. He thinks hes to smart for his crew and that he isnt as smart as hed like to be.

Victor talks about as children he and Elizabeth grow to be best friends. As a teen Victor becomes interested in science and studies old alchemists.

Victor is watching a storm when a tree is hit with lightning, he is then inspired to try and apply the use of electricity to his studies in alchemy.

Walton is telling his sister that the ship has finally set sail. He tells her that he has no doubt that he will achieve his goal.

While nursing a sick Elizabeth back to health Caroline catches the scarlet fever and dies. On her death bed she asks Victor and Elizabeth to get married.

Right before Victor leaves for college his mother dies. He leaves to college grieving his mothers death.

The ship becomes trapped in the ice and the crew sees the monster being pulled on a dog sled. The next day they find another man that is almost dead. Walton becomes friends with him and it ends when Frankenstein says hes going to tell his story.

Hidden in his house Victor isolates himself from everyone and begins the construction of his monster.

While at school Victor becomes interested in the human body and studies anatomy and the decay of humans.

Victor finished his creation and was horrified with what he saw, he dreams of his mothers corpse and wakes to the monster watching him. He flees to the town.

While in town victor comes across a friend who takes him back to his apartment and helps nurse him back to health.

The monster finds a satchel and reads the books in it and he also finds Victors journal telling of how he was made.

After being rejected by the family in the cottage the monster goes into the forest. While walking he saves a girl that fell into the river only to be shot at by her father.

The monster ends his story and tells Victor that he has to create a female companion and that if he does he will go to South America never to be seen again.

After thinking about the deaths of Justine and William Victor decides to postpone the creation of the female monster. He puts off his wedding until he creates the monster.

Victor tells Henry to live with one of his friends. Victor goes to a shack on an island to begin his work on the female companion.

Victor decides to stop creating the monster completely. Furious the monster vows revenge on Victor and Elizabeths wedding.

"I was doomed to live and in two months found myself as awaking from a dream, in a prison"(169)

Victor knows the monster will come so he stays outside hoping to intercept the monster before he gets to Elizabeth, but in doing so he gives the monster an easy way to get in through the window during Victors absence.
