Tuscarora Joined The Confederacy
The Tuscarora joined the Iriquois Confederacy which is the most powerful group of Native Americans in the East.Originally there were 5 nations Mohawk,Senca,Cayuga,Onondaga,and Oneida.Once the Tuscarora joinded the English refered to them as the six nations. -
Hostility Grew
The hostility between the two forces grew.When British furtraders settled in Ohio the French quickly drove them out.In response to those attacks some British captured the French fortress of Louisbourg. -
Great Pressures By The British
The British had been moving into the Ohio Valley and the Iriqouis surcame to great pressure.Iriqouis gave British more trade rights.THis upset the balance of power between the French and British that had been so hard to establish. -
George Washington
Govenor Robert Dinwiddie told Washington to survay the land in the Ohio Valley that they wanted to settle.He waas to tell the French they were trasspassing on land that Britain claimed.The French didnt listen. -
Washington's First Command
Dinwiddie made Washington a Lieutenant Colonel.He sent Washingto to Ohio with a militia.They were to set up a fort where Allegheny and Monongahela rivers met.(present day Pittsburgh)French were already there setting up a fort.His men attacked but lost even tho they lost he was considered a hero for stricking the first blow against the French. -
The Albany Plan Of Union
Representatives met in Albany to dicuss the threat of war.They wanted to defend themselves and they hoped to presuade the Iriqouis to help the British.They decided to create the Albany Plan Of Union.They wanted to unite the colonys to fight.None of the colonys wanted to give up power so the paln didnt work.Soon a full scale war erupted THE FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR!
