    Britian and France were two of the strongest powers they had in Europe. British interests turned to the Ohio Valley.The french regarded this territory as their own. They didn't want british colonists sharing in their profitable fur trade.

    Hostility between the two forces grew. French troops had began raiding towns in Maine and New York. In response, some New Englanders captured the important French fortress at Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island, north of Nova Scotia.

    Governor Robert Dinwiddie of Virginia sent a surveyor named George Washington.He was only 21 years old. Wasshington did deliver the message but it wasn't any good.

    He sent Washington back to Ohio with a militia. They had instructions to build a fort where Alleghany and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio River
