The Japanese airforce attacked Pearl Harbour with bombers and fighter planes and managed to destroy 20 warships killing over 2000 people. -

Because of the bombings at Pearl Harbour by the Japanese, Americans were furious and wanted revenge so they decided to enter the war. -
Flyboy Attacks on Chichi Jima
Before heading to Iwo Jima, the Flyboys first attacked Chichi Jima because of the huge radio station that they had on the island. They tried several times to destroy it but only half of the compound was destroyed. -
Flyboy Attacks on Iwo Jima
Flyboys bombed Iwo Jima for 72 straight days to soften up the island so ground troops would have an easier time capturing the island. Capturing this island was critical in terms of reaching the Japanese mainland. -
Bombing of Mainland Japan
Flyboys with B-29 bombers carrying incendiary bombs would fly over Japanese cities that were industrially dense and destroy these targets with very little loss on the American side but big results against the enemy. In total they dropped 13 800 tons of napalm on Japanese cities and left 15 million people homeless. -
Guam War Trials
Approximately 5700 Japanese soldiers were convicted of war crimes during the war including beheading and cannibalism. 920 were executed, 525 were sent to prison for life, 2944 were imprisoned for shorter sententences, 1018 were acquitted and 279 escaped trial. -
Atomic Bombs Dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
In an effort to end the war as quick as possible, the United States dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan. The first one on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki. -

Because of the overwhelming air power the American airforce was displaying agains the Japanese and the damage they were causing, the Japanese Emperor was forced to surrender.
