    In the election of 1800 Jefferson defeated John Adams for the presidential election. Jefferson had tied with Aaron Burr, but Burr was supposedly running for Vice President with Jefferson. The election was passed onto the House of Reps and kept going on and on until Alexander Hamilton stepped up and said Jefferson would be a way better President than Aaron Burr.

    Thomas Jefferson was president from 1801-1809, he was a two-term president. Jefferson decentralized the government, cut costs, reduced bureaucracy, and eliminated taxes. An accomplishment Jefferson had during his time was he bought the Louisiana Purchase.

    England would take the US seamen captive which is why the US felt the need to start the war. The war took place for a little bit over 3 years. It ended with the Treaty of Ghent.

    James Monroe was elected president in 1816. He was a two-term president and his presidency ended in 1825. Monroe came up with the Monroe Doctrine.

    The Monroe Doctrine was found by James Monroe in 1823. Europe had hinted at increased colonization. Monroe had made it clear to Europe: "Don't Interfere with the Western Hemisphere."

    Andrew Jackson, hero to the common man, was elected president in 1828. Jackson hired his own supporters to replace the previous administration's staff. Andrew Jackson paid off national debt, laid the framework for democracy, gained new lands for America, strengthened relationships with foreign nations and issued a new currency. Jackson also had made the Indian Removal Act that was not passed but he did it anyway.

    The Indian Removal Act

    The Indian Removal Act was passed by the congress of Jackson's supporters in 1830. The Cherokee Tribe that was in Georgia refused to move and took the issue to court. The Supreme Court supported the Indians and said that they did not have to leave. Jackson did not listen and still moved the Indians and drove them west, mostly on foot and thousands died. The trail they took was then named "The Trail of Tears".
