Barbarossa On June of 1941, Hitler declared his attack on the Soviet Union by sending three major armies, each containing about 3 million soldiers. The first two attacks on the Soviet Union were a success, however the third group, which led its attack to Barbarossa, failed due to fighting in a two-front war. The attack became known as Operation Barbarossa.

It wasn't until August 15, 1945, V-J Day (Victory in Japan), that they finally surrendered. But they Didn't truely surrender until they signed a surrender document, the war was finally over.
