    College for Financial Planning teams up with the Cooperative Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to form the High School Financial Planning Program
  • Tax Reform Act

    The way people planned and invested for retirement began to change. They were faced with selecting investments for retirement accounts.
  • IAFP/ICFP

    A joint organization committee agrees to an IAFP/ICFP unification package. ICFP testifies for the first time before a U.S. Senate Congressional committee. IBCFP establishes continuing education requirements.

  • Bachelors Degree

    A bachelor’s degree is required for CFP certification.
  • Fiduciary Rule

    On April 6, the Labor Department releases its final version of the fiduciary rule, including changes to many areas the industry opposed. Congress will have 60 days to review the rule after it is published in the Federal Register. If lawmakers vote to rescind it, the resolution likely would be vetoed by President Barack Obama. Full compliance will be “phased in” and won't be required until Jan. 1, 2018.
