    fashion at this time was still almost the same as the 1800's before it. however near the end designers were started to appear more in the spot light, and the coreset was challenged by Paul Poiret, lanvin is sought after for her wedding gowns. fashion was slowly changing

    WW1

    women were making progress, and men were going off to war and movies were taking off. instead of the costume designs of years past fashion started taking functional cues. legs for women were freed with hobble skirts, and items like petticoats fell out of style. Menswear slow to change, but for the few that did adopt new styles they got rid of the heavy padding and went with natural shoulders. children were still being dress in sized down versions of their adult counterparts

    the roaring 20s

    the war was over and america was booming. women were able to vote, and the stock market was up, and sportswear was debuted. Women of this time left the function behind with the war. they started wearing jean patou's flapper style dress's. the polo showed up for men as a informal item to wear at sporting events. women wore blazers and knickers to sporting events. More flared pants appeared in mens closets where children started to see some change with less restrictive clothing. coco

    the great depression

    the stock market crashed. FDR created the new deal, people unable to purchase new items were making due with what they had. nylon was invented. High fashion started to rise again after the depression. the bias cut which was down to the mid calf drop became popular. mens clothing was loose, with straight leg and pleated trousers. jackets were padded and had wide shoulders. sportswear was started to pick up more traction. children clothing staying the same

    WW2 and the 40's

    fashion was restricted due to bans on the amount of fabric and what fabric was used for civilians. Paris fashion had to close its doors. the styles were the same at the start of the 40s as it was at the end of the 30s. after the war paris was back. dior was king. longer skirts, fitted jackets and the bikini. basic items wear in fashion for menswear. single breasted suits and narrower lapels. the youth style was more simple and free with jeans , sweaters, t shirts, and skirts

    The 1950's

    Fashion was always changing during this time. even with the war in korea people were able to purchase fashion. styles were wide and varied from beatnik, rock and roll, ivy league, and unisex all making debuts in the era. Shorts were becoming more common place; and acrylic and polyester were introduced for the first time. dior, and balenciaga were still at the top but the new face was givenchy who was awarded and praised for his asymmetrical cuts and seam work

    The 60's

    a time of unrest, civil and abroad. style at this time was also in a unrest. skirts became mini skirts or whatever silhouettes. denim and jeans wear worn by adults. afros and African styled clothing was being worn. boots for men wear worn, along with jewelry. fashion had become the most informal it has ever been. this could be seen the most in youth/teenagers. Yves saint laurent started his fashion house, geoffrey beene was winning awards, and pierre cardin showed his "nude" look .

    this was the year that people started to pick how they wanted to dress and not the designer. midi skirts were rejected and 2nd hand clothing was trending. jeans for everyone men women and teenagers were now a thing. designer denim was become a status symbol. The layered look was starting to take off along with ready to wear items . giorgio armani was the master of both men and women. Calvin Klein made simple designs and jeans. ralph lauren was the leader for american design at the time.

    Reaganomics was leading the era in consumption, and aids was destroying lives across the world including designers like halston and perry ellis. natural fibers were starting to become more popular due to the concern of the environment. licensing arrangements started to show up as well as the fitness trend. soon sneakers, jeans, and other relaxing clothing items dominated.we also saw the rise of the power suit in womenswear. near the end it became even more dominated by choice.

    the 90's

    the grunge look was on the rise and people were switching to doc martins. the first time hip hop style was seen with baggy jeans and t shirts. we also see the rise vintage and used clothing stores. clothing was inspired by the years passed designer works. women near the end of century were sporting animal prints and using alot of accessories more so than years past. during this time we have common names today in the stage, versace, marc jacobs, louis vuittion and etc.

    the styles stayed the same for the first half. things changed half way through returning classics but that have been updated. We also saw designer names popping up in lower end stores like h&m, and target. he 2000's also saw minority celebrity designers breaking through. at the end of the 00's leggins were in. forms of grunge were back and dad hats.

    comme des garcons, dolce and gabbana, moschino were popular, skinny jeans, leater, capes, gold, and more where trending. however as the time period is still playing out its hard to tell what will be looked back on as the major trends
