    The early-mid 1960's were marked by not only new fashions but also social change. The mod style of colorful clothing with go-go boots and the model Twiggy arrived from England. Together they made up the British fashin invasion.

    The late 1960's were a time for activism not only through protest but also through fashion. Hippies dressed like gypsies and bohemians. It was a time for tie-dye,fringe,and beads.

    The '70s were characterized by polyester, clogs,andgiant collars. Jeans became the pants of choice but anything was OK as long as it was bell bottoms. Great '70s fashions can be seen on "That 70's Show".

    The '70s also brought the rise (and fall) of disco music and fashion. Roller disco was all about rainbow colors. Proper attire for going disco dancing was big hair,sequins,and platform shoes.

    One the greatest fashion icons of the 1980's was Michael Jackson. He started the trends of solitary sparkly gloves, red zippered leather jackets, and shiny tuxedos with white leather shoes.

    The '80s were also a time when more women entered the workplace. This brought on a whole new culture of women's business fashions. Big shoulder pads and power suits were the trends for yuppies everywhere.

    The '80s also brought the rise of punk and goth fashions. Punk is characterized by spikes,mohawks,tartan patterns,ripped jeans,and t-shirts. Goth is dressing in dark clothes and make-up while maintaining a pale complexion.

    The punk and goth trends of the '80s as well as backlash against greed and materialism contributed to one of the biggest fashion trends of the '90s - grunge. Clothes were baggy and flannel paired with Doc Martins was in.

    It is hard to say which styles will be remembered from today sine there are so many popular fashions although hipster, Jersey, and hip hop will surely be among them. I can only hope that the more embarassing styles will be forgotten.
