Aunt Cora is Autumn's only best friend, since her OCD and panic attacks make her a loner. A new boy at her school named Bryce becomes her first boyfriend and has sex with him to make sure he stays with her. But when he finds out she lied to him about her parents not being dead, he leaves her and Autumn continues to drink and is almost raped by Micah, the groom's cousin. -
Summer Lily Kenwood (continued)
She then goes to Matt's best friend, Kyle. Summer is aware of Kyle's meth and other drug use, but it's his loving nature drawing Summer to him. She cheats on Matt by having sex with Kyle. Summer has asthma due to her mother smoking during her pregnancy with her. When the couple confront Matt about their relationship, she sees the side of Kyle she didn't want to see and realizes his addiction and anger may be problematic. Her drunk father causes an even bigger problem, because he gets a DUI. -
Hunter and Autumn
This book takes place nineteen years after Kristina met the "monster." She now has five children, all with different last names, living in different homes, and living different lives. Hunter, the oldest, is nineteen years old. He goes to college, has a job at a radio station, and a girlfriend named Nikki whom he loves very much. When you read about Hunter, you think he has a pretty average life. But it's not like that. Hunter loves Nikki a lot, but he has great difficulty proving it to her. -

Hunter also does drugs like his mother, but unlike her, he is not addicted to them. He is still curious on who his father is. Then one night when he and Nikki are out, he meets his father Brendan, the man who raped Kristina, Hunter's mother. The second child and first daughter, Autumn, lives with her alcoholic grandfather and Aunt Cora. She has OCD and panic attacks. Life is okay for Autumn until her Aunt Cora gets married. -
Summer Lily Kenwood
Summer has been abused her whole life by her father and his numerous ex-girlfriends. Summer has been dragged to foster home to foster home and back to her dad. She has a pretty decent life until she finds out of the girls living her molests one of the younger girls living there. Summer and the girl get in a fight and she is sent back to live with her father and girlfriend. Her boyfriend Matt saw Summer's face and offered no sympathy for her the day after the fight. She then breaks up with him -

Christmas morning comes and it isn't quite jolly. Kristina has cancer and the family gets in a fight because Kristina only thinks about herself. On the other hand, Krisitina's children get to meet with one another. Summer finds out about her sister Autumn and tries to be sisterly with her. The outcome of the argument is unknown. -

Summer is sent to live in a home in Fresno, but is reluctant to leave behind Kyle. Her new foster dad's demeanor worries her, and one of the foster girls becomes attached to Summer. When she manages to sneak out, she and Kyle run away for Christmas and live in his car by a ski lodge, and Kyle is so in love with Summer he tries to quit meth for her, and plans to work at the ski lodge.
