Soviet Union is established by joining Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Transcaucasus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzsatn, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and later other countries joined like Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. This new confederation was created by Vladimir Lenin. In this new republic, the government was controlled by the Communist party and the Gneral Secretary ruled the country.

The two leaders met in Reykjavik, Iceland for a summit. They talked about the controling their intermediate missle arsenals in Europe. While talking about that, the plan fell apart when there were accusations and retaliations. The plan failed. The talks ended the next day with no agrrement to the plan.

Gorbachev and Reagen talk about nuclear weapons treaty
Gorbachev is ready to sign a treaty that helps eliminate US and Soviet nuclear missiles from Europe. This eventulally lead to the signing of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces treaty in December of 1987. Gorbachev's goal was a cut in nuclear armaments. This offer was interesting to those in the United States. Soon the two leaders reached to a deal in December of 1987.

President Reagen makes a speech at the Berlin wall. He tells Gorbachev to tear down the berlin wall if he wants to have peace. This would help lead to an end of the Soviet Union. At the summit in Washington, Gorbachev and Reagen sign off on the nuclear missles treaty. This treaty is for eliminating the nucear missles that the US and the Soviets have in Europe. By 1991, the US eliminated 800 missles and the Soviets eliminated 1,800 of their weapons. This was a result of one of the most remarkable arm controlled agreements of the Cold War.

Berlin Wall is finally falls down. Everyone was very happy for the fall of the wall especially for the Germans in Berlin that were living there all those years. Thousands of people from east Berlin can come to the other side. The people reunited with families that they have not seen.

Coup begins in Soviet Union
Gorbachev did not follow the military's rules so he was under house arrest. The plotters (Military Hardliners) took over Moscow while both Gorbachev and Yeltsin were out of Moscow. Boris Yeltsin was trying to stop the plotters as soon as he heard about this. This causes chaos for the next few days in Moscow.

Coup continues
The coup is still continuing in Moscow. Yeltsin trys to stop the coup in Moscow. The Soviet troops turn against the citizens. Three people were killed because they took on the tanks. The plotters also try to take over the White House. Whoever was in the way ( like plotters) were killed.

Gorbachev resigns as a leader of the Soviet Union which causes the end of the Soviet Union. The day after, Russian government takes over. This is also the last day the Soviet flag is flown. Boris Yeltsin takes over as the president when the Russian government takes over.
