Evolution of the light bulb

  • The Begining

    The Begining
Before the early 1800s the available light sources consisted of candles, oil lanterns, and gas lamps. In 1809, an English chemist, Humphrey Davy used a high power battery to induce current between two charcoal strips. The current flowing through the two charcoal strips produced an intense incandescent light, creating the first arc lamp.
  • First innovation

This method was overshadowed in 1820 when a scientist by the name of Warren De la made a lamp design making use of platinum coil in an evacuated tube and passing electrical energy through it.
  • Prototype

In 1835 James Bowman Lindsay presented a prototype light bulb, which was perhaps lost in the invention of the first electrical incandescent arc lamp, which made use of charcoal filament.
  • Imagination

1854 was the time when perhaps the true form of the light bulb was introduce in the world by a German watchmakers Henricg Globel. By using his innovative imagination he made use of bamboo strand inside a flute bulb.
  • Modifaction

This concept was further modified in 1875 when Herman Sprengel originated mercury vacuum pump for a convenient light tuber.
  • Duration

In 1878 by Sir Joseph Wilson while at the same time Edison was working on constant betterment of light bulb and came up with a bamboo derived filament in 1880 which lasted for an incredible 1200 hours!!
  • Tungsten

    Tungsten
Because of its strength, ductility and workability, tungsten can readily be formed into the filament coils, used to enhance performance in modern incandescent bulbs. Due to its high melting point, tungsten can be heated to 3000oC / 5,432 oF, where it glows white hot providing very good brightness. However, the early tungsten filaments still sublimed too quickly at such high temperatures.
  • Frosted

In 1921 the first frosted light bulbs were introduced. The frosted light bulbs are made to produce a soft light that is good enough to light an area without irritating ones eyes, where bright light is not required.
  • Remade duration

In 1991 Philips invented light bulb lasting more than 60,000 hours!!
  • The most efficient

The Nanolight is essentially a circuit-board with LEDs attached to it, folded up into the shape of a light bulb that plugs into a regular lighting fixture.
